1.1 Background
1.2 Problem statement
On the existing attendance record process in Regent University College of science and technology, attendance recording is hand-operated by using papers given by the lecturer.
This poses the following problem;
• The attendance sheet could be lost or destroyed.
• Students signing attendance for absent colleagues.
• Lecturers favoring students on attendance.
• Inaccuracy in attendance recording.
• Ineffectiveness and time consumption in attendance recording

1.3 Aim of study
The aim of this project is to create a biometric-based attendance management system that uses fingerprints to identify each individual student.

1.4 Objective of study
The main objective of this research is to create in Regent University College of science and technology, a student attendance management system using a biometric system technology, that would;
• Prevent the falsification of presence of student that absent themselves from lectures.
• Adequately provide facilities for various departments to access the information of students with ease
• Provide accuracy, efficiency and safety of attendance recording.
This would also expose students to technology and help them to be computer user friendly.


1.5 Significance of study
The significance of this study is to:
• Create a learning institution free from truant behaviors, an environment that would not tolerate or give room for cheating attendance system by falsely representing fellow students.
• This would also encourage the presence of student in class.
• To create a user friendly, more efficient and quicker attendance tracking system that is not prone to student manipulation.
