In the novel, nearly all public and private places have large television screens that broadcast government propaganda. But they are also two-way monitors that spy on citizens private lives. Today websites like Facebook track our likes and dislikes, and government’s hack into our computers and find out what they want to know. Then there are surveillance cameras that spy on the average person as they go about their daily routine.
The data would also be useful to advertisers, who would then be able to calculate what areas of the screen are more valuable than others, and what ads were most engaging. There is also the Kinect, which could go as far as to read your body language to track how you are feeling. Televisions are in every room. The programs run 24 hours a day, and the workers rarely turn their screens off. Plus the surveillance cameras are in most buildings that are operated by businesses, and in some public streets that are operated by police, to prevent crime. Although most of the cameras are runned by private businesses instead of our government, the end result is the same. Most of our televisions today, do not have built in cameras in them, but technology is capable of it. Cameras today are mainly used for the protection of the people, and to try to prevent crime from happening. Crime still does happen even with these cameras, but when it does, the cameras can catch the criminal. Although the extent to which they used in the novel is greater than what we today have. Our laptops all store data about our lives. Our history is never completely erased, and can be accessed by certain government programs. If you have a phone in your pocket, you are not lost. You can be traced. With the social websites   like facebook and twitter, people can know where you are and what you are doing without even...
