Purpose: To examine factors that increase reaction rate.
Procedure:
For the first experiment a sample of solid calcium carbonate and a sample of the powdered calcium carbonate that was about equal mass of the solid calcium carbonate was obtained. Then they were placed in a test tube. After which the test tubes were placed in a rack in which a solution of 5 mL of 1mol of HCl was added to each of the test tubes. After which observations were observed and recorded.
In the second experiment three different beackers were obtained in which three different sources of water were placed. One of which was a beaker filled with water and ice, the second was a beaker of water that was being heated to around 70 degrees Celsius, and the third was a beaker filled with water from the tap. After the temperatures were taken for each beaker, an Alka Seltzer was dropped in each beaker. Afterwards the time the Alka Seltzer took to dissolve in the water was recorded in the data table.
In the third experiment three test tubes were needed in which three different concentrations of HCl were added. A piece of zinc was added to each different test tube. The observations that were observed were how quickly the piece of zinc reacted.
For the final experiment six different test tubes were obtained in which they added 10mL of H2O2 after which 90ml were added to obtain a test tube of approximately 100ml of solution. After two drops of 6 different solutions were added to each test tube, FeCl3, NaCl, Fe(NO3)3 , CaCl2,KNO3   and MnO2. The observations obtained were to determine if a catalyst was added to the solutions that were added to the test tube.
