I found that nowhere is safe, any house can be in the burglar’s look.
These are some advises that might be useful for you to beat the burglar to keep your house safe.
You shouldn’t live in a house or flat that is on the ground floor, set back from the road, with the good screen of trees and bushes, and plenty of easy exits over walls to common land and to the railway line. The place is everything the burglars love, so be careful!
You should fit security locks on every doors and windows and safety chain on the front door. And whenever you go out, use them, even if it’s only for a short time. Remember to bring the key with you, not put it in a “secret” place because the burglar can find them easily.
If you have valuable items, it should be given special protection, by leaving them with your bank, or maintaining an up-to-date list of valuables and descriptions and put them at the bank or with your insurance company just in case you have them stolen, these writing can be of assistance to the police.
When you go away on holiday or business, don’t advertise the fact that your home is empty, do remember to cancel the daily orders such as milk, newspapers,… and draw curtains back. Don’t leave notes for tradesmen and try not to talk about your holiday and future plans loudly in public. Make sure you have a good relationship with your neighbors enough to ask them to keep an eye on your home when you’re away. They can help you take in the mail, check the house, put lights on,… Call at your local police station and tell them you are going away. Make sure that they know who has your spare key and how you can be contacted in case of trouble.
When you move into a new home, even if it is fitted with the security locks, change them because you don’t know who may have duplicate keys. And when you are new to a district, never let anyone you don’t know into your house without checking their proof of identify.
Hope that you can find useful from the tips in case you leave home,...
