Section 1: Rights and responsibilities at work

1. Identify four main points that would be included in a contract of employment.   If possible, use an example contract to support your answer (feel free to obscure any confidential information). [1.1]

Four main points on my current contract are: (An old contract is attached).

    • Job title/role/duties: This is a brief description of what an employee will be doing whilst working and it may also state any other duties I will carry out when and if required.
    • Contracted working hours: This indicates how many hours per week the employer has agreed the employee will work.
    • Salary/holiday entitlement: This allows both the employer and employee to know how much they will be earning. This is stated annually on my contract of employment.
    • Probationary period: This is a period where the employee must work before being confirmed for the mentioned position in employment. This is usually about 3 months.

3. Identify a range of places where a person can find information on employment rights and responsibilities. You should identify at least two internal and two external sources of information. [1.3]

Four internal sources where information can be found or even provided within an organisation could be via the companies HR Department, in an employee’s terms of employment contract, staff handbooks and via trade union representatives.
