An Accusation of Sexual Harassment in Pro Sports

Introduction

      Discrimination and Sexual Harassments are still one of the problems that the employees are facing in their workplaces.   During the last 10-15 years, studies have shown that many girls and women have experienced sexual harassment and abuse in sport (Brackenridge & Fasting 2002).
      Sexual harassment is a problem for many organizations.   Organizations must understand that sexual harassment lies within the broader context of sex discrimination and inequality of opportunity in the workplace.   Sexual harassment is both an illegal and unethical practice.   Companies need to implement a policy that respects the rights of individual employees by prohibiting sexual harassment.   This policy needs to be explicitly states in the company Code of Ethics and enforced rigorously. (Crain & Heischmidt, 1995)
      According to Vagianos, 1 in 3 women ages 18 to 34 have been sexually harassed at their workplace while %29 of them reported the harassment.   Only %15 of the women who reported the harassment felt the report was handled fairly. (Vagianos, 2015)

The Lawsuit
      The lawsuit, filed in January 2006 in U.S. District Court in New York, claims that Isiah Thomas began harassing Anucha Browne Sanders after he joined the New York Knicks franchise in Dec. 2003 and that the team fired Mrs. Browne Sanders in retaliation for her complaints about the matter.
      Madison Square Garden is a multi-purpose indoor arena in the New York City borough of Manhattan, New York.   The Garden is used for professional basketball and ice hockey, as well as boxing, concerts, ice shows, circuses, and other forms of sports and entertainment and it is home to the New York Knicks and New York Rangers.
