Evolution My Views on the Process of Evolution For many years people have asked the questions, “How did we get here?”, and “How did mankind come to exist?” Astronomers, philosophers, and even mathematicians have come up with explanations. I believe in the theory of Theistic evolution. It is the belief that the universe is over 10 billion years old and the earths crust is over 4 billion years old. However, God caused the first living organism to appear: the cell. From that moment it took over millions of years for the cell to evolve into a mammal (such as ourselves). I believe in this theory simply because the reasoning behind the Theistic theory are the most factual. I agree very much with Darwin’s theory of evolution. Darwin believed that all creatures evolved from one-celled organisms to more and more advanced species over millions of years. Most modern-day biological and earth scientists believe that evolution is no longer just a theory. It is an established fact that the earth's structure has changed and its life forms have evolved over billions of years. It has been observed that species of animals are continuously evolving, both in the lab and in nature. There are many examples of how animals have evolved from each other. There is even some debate as to whether dinosaurs were the distant relatives of their ancestors the birds. The fact that more than 99% of geological and biological scientists agree that evolution did take place and evolved over millions of years influences my opinion. To a certain extent I agree with the scientists just because they are experts on the subject. The knowledge I have acquired on the different theories of evolution from these specialists is what my opinion is based on. All I can do is try to understand what the experts have discovered. The truth is that most of the evidence supports the theory of evolution and thus it is enough to convince me. I believe in Theistic evolution versus Naturalistic evolution1. I feel that life could not just “be”, that it couldn’t just exist, there must have been some kind of supernatural power that started it all. I believe that a God helped the evolutionary process without “interfering” too much. Everything on earth has a distinct beginning; the universe must have had some kind of a start as well. With so much yet to be discovered no one can know for sure how man came to exist. Most likely as long as we live on this earth, we will never know for certain, at least probably not in our lifetime. Although just as the past continues to remain a mystery so does the future, and who knows what it may reveal. This essay is only for research purposes. If used, be sure to cite it properly! |
