Long-Term Effects of World War I

The establishment of communist states occurred after this war. The power of the soviets grew in Russia. Workers set up councils to organize protests and plan demonstrations. Every factory and military barrack in the city sent representatives to the St. Petersburg Soviet. It was a chilling site for Russia's leader as revolutionists gathered to think of a plan to change Russia. The Bolsheviks supported revolution. They later did make a revolution and formed the USSR. Russia had a civil war with regular people who wanted no change vs. the Bolsheviks that wanted the new soviet type government. The "red army" won by their intimidating soldiers and contributing factors with the white army getting scared and losing morale.
World War I began on July 28, 1914, with the declaration of war by Austria-Hungary on Serbia, and hostilities between the Allied and Central Powers continued until the signing of the armistice on November 11, 1918, a period of 4 years, 3 months, and 14 days. The aggregate direct war costs of all the belligerents amounted to about $186 billion. Casualties in the land forces amounted to more than 37 million in addition, close to 10 million deaths among the civilian populations were caused indirectly by the war. This was the first war in history with a large number of civilian casualties. From the establishment of communism and all these deaths, it could be said that the effects of war did not benefit Russia at all even with the consequences.
