Technology Is Making Us More Alone

  * Do you agree that technology is making us more alone?
I’m totally agreed that technology is making us more or less alone.

Technology is supposed to make us more connected. We can stay in touch with our friends all the time on Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp, and of course by texting. Technology has many effects. It has helped develop more advanced economies (including today's global economy) and has allowed the rise of a leisure class. Many technological processes produce unwanted by-products, known as pollution, and deplete natural resources, to the detriment of Earth's environment. Various implementations of technology influence the values of a society and new technology often raises new ethical questions. Examples include the rise of the notion of efficiency in terms of human productivity, a term originally applied only to machines, and the challenge of traditional norms.

The Effect of Technology on Social Relationships
When you communicate virtually or by phone, your communication is much more limited than it is when you communicate in person. For example, talking to someone online excludes the use of body language, voice tone and eye contact from a conversation.
As a result, the less face to face communication you have with people, the worse your social skills are likely to become. The effect of these poor social skills can then make it difficult for a person to form meaningful and lasting relationships outside the virtual world.
For example, they may find it difficult to communicate their message verbally, be unable to understand what people are saying to them or be unable to read the various nonverbal forms of communication which signal whether a person is interested or not in what they are saying.
