David Klass

This essay is my version of an author study on the writer David Klass. He wrote books such as California Blue, Breakaway Run, and The Atami Dragon.   In my opinion, from the incredible way he writes, he’s one of the best writers I’ve ever read. His detail and thoughts are so clear and perfectly set into the book California Blue.  



Klass was born in Leonia, New Jersey. He grew up with the ambition of becoming a professional baseball player. He wanted to be the first-baseman of the New York Mets. Throughout high school and most of college, it seems like he would achieve that goal, up until his junior year at Yale, when he won a short story contest. From that point on, he barely paid attention to his athletic past, he was now a writer.



His most acclaimed work was written and first released for the U.K. It was titled, You Don’t Know Me. Many people have given this book very positive reviews, and with his type of writing style, I can see why. He has written 40+ screenplays for Hollywood and has written 14 young adult novels. This wide collection of works includes his newest, a trilogy, (which consists of Firestorm, Whirlwind, and Timelock.)  



Reading this book was like watching a movie. The details were so vivid, I felt like I was in the little town of Kiowa. I felt as if I saw the whole adventure; the forest, the spawning of the blue butterflies, the riot, everything. It was actually kind of a nice visualization and I really enjoyed his type of writing. I fully recommend this book to anyone who likes a very detailed book.

So in all, the author David Klass is a truly skilled writer. He has a natural ability to portray details and vivid images as if he were telling his own life story. I really enjoyed reading his novel because it really hooked me in. I feel like he is a genius when it comes to writing novels directed towards Young Adults.
