    Abstract: Romania and the Central Powers (August 1913 – June 1914)
    The author researched the orientation of Romania’s external politics regarding the politico-military groups of the great powers, the Triple Aliance and the Triple Entente, during the period between the Treaty of Bucharest from 1913 and the crisis from July 1914, which prefaced the ignition of the First World War.
    The study represents a thorough treatise of the evolution of the relations between Romania and Austro-Hungarian Empire, which were mostly determinated by the politics of the Hungarian government towards the Romanians from Transylvania, but also by Wien’s and Berlin’s diplomatic efforts to maintain Romania in the political orbit of the Central Powers.
    The author emphasizes the main factors that contributed to Romania’s detachment from the Central Powers and to its external politics reorientation towards the Entente.

    Desfăşurarea celui de-al Doilea Război Balcanic a pus în evidenţă nonconformismul politicii externe româneşti faţă de cea a Austro-Ungariei şi precaritatea alianţei dintre cele două state, deşi nu de mult timp reînnoită. Totodată, disensiunile dintre România şi Austro-Ungaria au reflectat materializarea unei tendinţe mai vechi de detaşare a României de Austro-Ungaria, fapt care a contribuit la agravarea crizei care se manifestase în sistemul Triplei Alianţe. Evoluţia relaţiilor româno-austro-ungare în perioada ulterioară Conferinţei de pace de la Bucureşti s-a înscris pe aceeaşi traiectorie, ceea ce arată că disensiunile dintre cele două state nu erau legate de factori conjuncturali, ci de factori obiectivi, care ţineau de însăşi fundamentele politicii externe a statului român.
