View from a Bridge

A View from a Bridge was written by Arthur Miller in the 19th century. The play is set in an Italian American neighbourhood in Brooklyn Bridge, New York. In this essay I will not only be discussing how far Catherine was responsible for Eddie’s death, but how far the other characters contributed in his death.
Catherine acts in a way which a young woman should not act in front of her relative, especially her aunts’ husband. She is too affectionate, and reveals much of her personality, and character by acting like Eddie is her friend, and not her Uncle.
“Runs her hands over her skirt: I just got it, you like it?”
This shows us that Catherine is happy to talk about her clothes and herself with Eddie, her body language shows she feels comfortable and reverses her uncle. Catherine gets Eddie to think that he is more than just an uncle; she is too close with him and treats him like he is a friend. Catherine is at fault because she misleads Eddie in the things she does, and the way she acts. Catherine plays a part in Eddie’s death; Eddie feels close to Catherine, and he soon realizes he does not want to let go of her, but keep her with him.
However, Eddie’s reaction over Catherine being in love with Rodolfo drives him crazy, and he starts to act inconsiderate; he starts to think that Catherine has no free will, and that she is an accessory that belong to him.
