I was the third child born to Nancy and Scott Donkel. I was born on April 18th 1997 at approximately one o’ clock in the morning at eight lbs. I was delivered at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. My mother’s doctor had her come in on my due date to induce her. They gave her the potocin so she would go into labor with me. My mom had very short labors and quick deliveries with my brothers and sisters. They wanted her to play it safe.
My mom received prenatal care beginning 4 weeks after my conception. She continued to jog and race walk throughout her pregnancy with me. She felt very healthy while eating nutritionally, getting monthly checks, and taking prenatal vitamins. Still, my mom gained 30 pounds while pregnant with me. My parents had already attended Lamore classes while my mom was pregnant with my brother Max so they didn’t with me since they knew what to do.
The delivery itself was quite easy. My labor only lasted about 2 hours. My mom labored without using any painkillers. I came out head first and in only 2 pushes. The only minor problem occurred was when my umbilical cord was briefly stuck around my neck… but only for a second or two. On her second push I was fine! I now have 3 sisters and 1 brother in my family. My mom said I was the sweetest baby ever and slept through the night at 6 weeks. My mom wishes we were all still babies. For some reason my mom believes life was easier then.
