In the article blank and white John Lienhard talks about slavery. One of the first thing he talks about is how many slaves where actual brought from there motherland which was around 250,000. This was just before the Revolutionary War. These slaves were mostly concentrated in Virginia they were so concentrated that slaves led the population three to two, to freed people.
The article then starts to talk about Thomas Jefferson who appeared to be the President at that time. It talks about how there where a clock ticking everywhere because Thomas Jefferson thought that time was very important. Every room on Monticello had a clock.
The article also talks about how Africans made a difference by creating very creative arts and craft. Africans did such a good job that there craftsmanship was carried into the new world. You could see this in their toys, dolls, quilt-patterns, musical instruments. All these things showed Africans work and great craftsmanship.
The last thing that the article talks about is how African slaves viewed religion. This stated that African religion was more than just those Negro spirituals. One way we see this is when Thomas Jefferson was ill that one of his slaves wrote him a letter relating to God. In the closing we see that Thomas Jefferson was close to slaves. The way we know this is because when he passed the way people found out about it was the flying of a white flag. This is normally the symbol of an African passing away.
