Chagall

Chagall was known for his fairy-tale like paintings.   Many of his paintings and artwork has make believe objects and made up images throughout.   La Rouge, one of his paintings has a casual and kind of relaxed with a sense of professionalism detailed in it.  
As a student Chagall experimented in a study building shaped like a beehive, with rooms around one another and the smell of paint oils always in the air.   He wrote an autobiography “My Life” was written when he was 35.   He describes it as “Chagall’s own Fantasy.”   Although in his later life Chagall did become wealthier, he was born into one of a poorer Jewish family in 1887.   His father was a fish porter and his mother ran a small shop in town.   His birth was a big deal to the family.   At the time of his birth a huge fire broke out behind the prison, and the family did not want to leave their home and all their possessions.
You can see his hometown in many of his paintings; he uses this ordinary town as an inspiration for much of his work and accomplishments.   He also uses a lot of repetition throughout his work too, using it such as a common thing from artwork to artwork.   Chagall had hoped that when he moved away from his hometown that he could enter the Art Academy in St. Petersburg.   But when he got there to take the entrance exam he failed, and his only other choice was to go to another easier school. He hated where he was in St. Petersburg, and as soon as he saved up enough money to move to a European artistic community in Paris.
