Adult Like Qualities
In The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, the character Esperanza shows adult like qualities because she is, mature, loyal, and knowledgeable.   First off, in the vignette, "Papa Who Wakes Up Tired in the Dark" Esperanza's brave Papa shares that her abuelito had died. While he is sharing the news he breaks down and begins to cry. Esperanza comforts him and holds him in her arms all day. Esperanza also was responsible for telling the others about the death. By noticing her Papa is hurting inside and realizing she has to remain strong she is being the mature person in the situation. Next, being adult like, Esperanza is loyal enough to help out a friend in need.   In the vignette, "The Monkey Garden" Esperanza and Sally are playing around in the garden when they stumble upon Tito and a group of his friends. Instead of staying with Sally, Esperanza stayed alone and watched. Once she saw what they were doing, Esperanza asked herself, "Only how come I felt angry inside. Like something wasn't right." (Cisneros 97)   Though Sally's mom didn't care about the issue Esperanza was being loyal by giving an effort to keep her friend from getting hurt.   Finally, in the vignette, "The Family of Little Feet" Esperanza and her friends decide to explore the neighborhood in high heels. Esperanza notices the power that the girls receive from the shoes. She thinks of how her physical beauty could help her escape her surroundings. When the bum attempts to kiss Rachel, that is just one of many incidents where the men have the power. Esperanza knows she is uncomfortable and begins noticing things about the men in her community which proves that she is gaining common sense and becoming more knowledgeable.   In The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, the character Esperanza shows adult like qualities because she is, mature, loyal, and knowledgeable.
