Sex Addiction

For most people, sex contributes in positive ways to the quality of life. However, about three to six percent of Americans have sexual addiction. Like all addictions, its negative impact on the addict and on family members usually increases as the disorder progresses. Sexual addiction is best described as a progressive intimacy disorder characterized by compulsive sexual thoughts and acts. According to the findings of one study, 72% had been physically abused in childhood, 81% had been sexually abused, and 97% emotionally abused. When a person is a sex addict they at first don’t realize that they have a problem. It isn’t until their friends and loved ones become affected when they finally notice that something is wrong.   When we think about sex addiction, we think of Tiger Woods and Jesse James. But little do we know, sex addiction is everywhere.
It’s the story that is on every news channel on television, the Tiger Woods sex scandal. Tiger Woods began playing golf when he was just a child. He never imagined his life would ever turn out the way that it did.Tiger cheated on his wife with at least fifteen women. Tiger didn’t realize how bad he was hurting his family, until he got caught. He also didn’t understand that he let all of his friends and fans down. I believe that he knows what he did was wrong. He took off from playing golf to go and get help so he can try and put his life back together. When interviewed by a channel four news reporter, Tiger said
I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children. I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I've done, but I want to do my best to try.
