In my eyes, the stated of black race is in headed down the wrong path. Black men are overrepresented in the prison system than college, black people are threat to themselves,The way this country view black men has shaped who I am, how I view the world, and how I am going to carry out my duties and responsibilities as a father, a husband and social worker.   The community I grew up in was segregated, with whites on one side of the town, and blacks on the other side.   It was obvious how police officers treated white people with more respect than black people throughout the community.   When growing up, I use to watch the evening news with my grandparents. It appeared that the first 10 minutes of the news were reports of incarcerations and crimes committed by black boys and black men.   Another incident that helped mode my thoughts were majority of my friends were raised by single mothers because the father either were incarcerated, or abandoned the child/ren.   These few experiences listed above, including other personal experiences, made me want to be seen in a as a

The media is one of the most powerful systems in this country. It has the power to make the innocent appear guilty and the guilty appear innocent. It has been, and continues to be one of the biggest creators and enforcers of negative and destructive stereotypes of black men.   It seems from newspaper articles, internet sources, and television programs that black men are being depicted as useless, lazy, ignorant, and uneducated men. These negative stories create powerful images in the heads and hearts of people. For example, foreigners hear about these reports and come to America expecting every black man to attack them. White job owners read these stories and find it hard to believe any of their black job applicants can be productive.
