UBIQUITOUS COMPUTING

To compute means to calculate, to solve the various problems with the help of a device that does not have any scope of mistake, if manufactured properly and operated sensibly.
3 generations of computing:-
Mainframe Computing - many people share one computer
Desktop Computing – one person using one computer
Ubiquitous Computing – one person using many computer.
The meaning of the word ubiquitous is omnipresent, i.e. present everywhere. It also means universal. Ubiquitous Computing is environment in which we have access to a variety of digital devices and services, including computers connected to the Internet and mobile computing devices, whenever and wherever we need them. Our notion of ubiquitous computing is more focused on many-to-many than one-to-one or one-to-many. Ubiquitous Computing refers to the trend that we as humans interact no longer with one computer at a time, but rather with a dynamic set of small networked computers, often invisible and embodied in everyday objects in the environment. Ubiquitous Computing names the third wave in computing, just now beginning. First were mainframes, each shared by lots of people. Now we are in the personal computing era, person and machine staring uneasily at each other across the desktop. Next comes ubiquitous computing, or the age of calm technology, when technology recedes into the background of our lives.
Ubiquitous Computing Includes:
- Hundreds of computers in every room.
- Wirelessly networked.
- With their own display.
- Computation happens in the background.
Alan Kay of Apple calls this "Third Paradigm" computing.
