Slide 1

Mehndi, which is   also called henna tattoo is a skin decoration which fades away usually in a week.

It’s Applied during special occasions like weddings and festivals.

Slide 2

It’s made from the dried leaves of the henna plant, crushed into a powder, then made into a paste

Placed in a plastic paper cone and applied to the body to safely dye the skin.

Slide 3

Henna designs are made from small designs like lines, dots, tear-drops, leaf shapes, different types of flowers shape   and combined   to make large, more complex design.

Slide 4

This is done in elaborate patterns traditionally on hands and feet.

Slide 5

Holding the cone correctly is main thing when applying Henna.

A cone can be held in several different ways - like a cake-decorating tube, or like a pencil.

I prefer holding cones using a pencil-holding technique because it gives me full control over lines and shapes.

Slide 6

Creating mehndi designs is actually quite simple and just takes practice.

Slide 7

Here are some henna designs used during engagements, weddings and festivals.

I suggest that, if you are a beginner, you should purchase a henna design book or find designs online so that you can understand the basics of henna design.

Start on Hand:

Whenever you apply henna on someone’s hand, you will never start from fingers because they will be near to you.

You should start from the farthest place and come to nearest. Otherwise the whole hand will get messy!

Hold it in your right hand. Squeeze little at a time, do not apply too much force.

Tip of the henna should not touch the skin but should be held just above the skin so the line of paste lays down in a nice round line (like a rope).

As you start applying, the tip will get messy, so keep cleaning it with tissue paper.

The cleaner the tip, the neater the work.

If you have made some mistake while applying it, do not worry. Just wipe off with tissue paper as soon as possible...
