INTRODUCTION ABOUT THE SCHOOL:
The Beaconhouse Network traces its roots to the Les Anges Montessori Academy, which was established in November 1975 in Lahore, Pakistan. Beaconhouse Public School followed in 1978, when the government of Pakistan allowed the private sector to enter primary and secondary education. Today, Beaconhouse School System owns and operates schools in all the major towns and cities of Pakistan and, with a student body exceeding 60,000; it is the largest private educational institution in Pakistan and among the largest in the world. If you include the other educational organizations that constitute the Beaconhouse Network, we have over 100,000 students.
Beaconhouse has been a key contributor to the development of human capital in Pakistan through an in-service teacher-training program – the largest in the private sector in Pakistan. As a result of this and other initiatives, in 1996 Beaconhouse became the first private school system in the world to enter into a financing arrangement with the World Bank.
But perhaps Beaconhouse’s greatest achievement has been to light the way for the growth of private education in Pakistan at a time when the government education system had all but collapsed. Private schools at all levels now account for a substantial part of Pakistan’s education market. Today, 35% of primary school students study at a private school – the highest rate of any country in the world. As the nation’s leader in private education, Beaconhouse has played a key role in the creation of a more moderate, internationally-minded middle class in Pakistan.
