Macbeth’s Destiny
The three witches played a huge role in Macbeth’s decisions.   They motivated his bad actions with the use of their prophecies. The first action they motivated is the murder of King Duncan.
Macbeth had enough free will to have complete control over his actions and even had second thoughts before committing treason. When he went back to his castle, Lady Macbeth ridicules his masculinity and says she’d much rather beat a baby’s brain out than have a husband who couldn’t kill in cold blood. This gives him enough encouragement to begin planning the king’s assassination with his wife.
Before Macbeth returned home, Lady Macbeth prayed to devils to possess her mind and give her a man’s ability to do evil. Lady Macbeth keeps a strong sedative in the house; she doesn’t mention this even when she’s planning the murder with Macbeth, the sedative happens to play a part in King Duncan’s murder. They plan to assassinate Duncan by his getting his guards drunk(while being drugged with the sedative) and then killing the king while the three are asleep, then smearing the guards in the kings blood afterwards to complete the frame up.   After the king was murdered and Macbeth and Lady Macbeth became king and queen of Scotland they were afraid that someone might’ve found out what they did and try to overthrow them.
The Macbeths began to feel great guilt about what they did. But it was still Macbeth’s ambition that caused him to kill King Duncan; the prophecies just gave it a little push. All of Macbeth’s tyrannical acts were to keep the throne secure.
