Sexual Stereotyping                                                                                  

Girls today are victims of sexual stereotyping, particularly when it comes to how they are portrayed to be “perfect” with model like figures. Advertisements, magazines and billboards stereotype women to have flawless bodies where in reality these women are a minority. They also have challenges in the workplace that occur when men and women are asked to do the same physical jobs. This happens when women want to enter the professions of firefighters, policemen and paramedics.
Media has a big impact on women with sexual stereotyping and how it affects the way they view themselves. Most billboards, magazines and advertisements all feature women with perfect figures and have put it into the society’s minds that that is the right image. It is amazing how over the years, the media has become so influential in people’s lives whether it is clothes, cars or body image. Sexual Stereotyping can cause a great lack of self esteem and even cause people to become depressed, anorexic, or bulimic. Although, some companies are trying to make society aware that everyone is different and should be proud of whom they are. Dove is an example of one company that promotes real beauty. “At Dove, we want to help free ourselves and the next generation from beauty stereotypes. It’s this message that’s at the heart of our Campaign for Real Beauty and Self-Esteem Fund, and it’s why we continue to create thought-provoking ads, confidence building programs and messages that embrace all definitions of beauty.” (http://www.dove.ca/en/#/cfrb/) This is how all media should be it shows people that everybody is beautiful in many different ways.
Many women have difficulties in the workplace specifically in becoming a policeman or a fireman because it is seen as a traditionally male occupation. Some of their tasks are physically challenging by having to carry heavy firemen equipment and controlling...
