History.

Censorship was important to Stalin’s state because Stalin needed censorship to appear in control. Censorship is where Stalin could control what was said in the media about him, this means he could prevent anything bad being written about him, he could make himself look like a really good person/leader to the public, but it also had a larger effect, that was part of the propaganda system. Education was important but only at a basic level, equality being encouraged. ‘Clever’ people were a threat as they could pick the propaganda system to pieces and were regarded as the ‘enemy of the people.’ Censorship gave a false picture of what was actually going on in the country.
1.) The censorship of this photo would be useful to Stalin, because it shows that Stalin is in control of what is going on, he can remove who wants from things and edit them so he can make himself look more powerful as he doesn’t want anyone better than him making a good impression, as Stalin believed no one was better than him.

2.) Three alternatives to censorship are: - Changing the culture to make it part of the propaganda system.
‘Indoctrinate’ (get a belief into someone’s head about something) the people to fear the west.
Abolition of the churches as disapproved by the communist party as being against their regime.
