The Expressive Role in the Nuclear Family

A family is a group of people who are related by blood or law and are living together as a unit of people and are usually living under the same household.   There are many types of families but the two main basic structures are nuclear and extended families. Nuclear family is where the mother and father and the children are all living together and this is seen as family ideology. An extended family is where you have a grandparent or another family relative is living with you. There are also other types of families like modified extended and this is where another family member is heavily involved in family but does not live in the same household and there are also step family’s where the father or mother has a child with another partner. A family is important in many ways it is important for a relationship to grow and develop but most important it is where child learns most of its fundamental skills for life and is therefore important to have strong family so the children can flourish and achieve good things in life. There are many roles inside a family and some these are an expressive role and this is predominately seen as the mothers role and this is where the mother care and nurtures   the children for there upbringing, why the father is out making most of the money and putting the food on the table this is known as the breadwinner. This is only seen in nuclear families and was Talcott parsons theory.
A family is also important because it has to irreducible functions and they are primary socialisation of children and this is where   it is up to the family to teach the children how to talk and how to learn new things like how to hold a knife and fork properly. The primary socialisation of children is stabilisation into adult hood and this giving them funding to go to school or collage and making sure that they can get a good education and also giving them money to they are old enough to get there own independence. A family is also important for there children...
