What is Diabetes?
Diabetes Mellitus is a disease which causes a person to have high blood sugar,
this is either because the body does not produce enough insulin or
because the cells in the body do not respond to the insulin that is produced.

What are the symptoms?
Symptoms of Diabetes Mellitus include having to urinate frequently,
it also can make the sufferer increasingly thirsty and hungry.
Also it may causes weakness, fatigue as well as blurred vision. Also
it can lead to sudden weight loss and sexual problems.

What different types exist?
There are two types of diabetes known as Type 1 and 2. Type 1 is due
to the body being unable to produce insulin and means the sufferer
must take regular insulin injections. Type 2 is a result of the cells in the body
not using insulin properly and sometimes totally rejecting it.

What are the dangers of Diabetes?
Diabetes carries a considerable risk it can lead to the following, blood
vessel damage in the eye which can affect sight severely. Also it can
cause kidney disease which could lead to kidney failure, another risk
of diabetes is nerve damage in the hands and feet and finally the narrowing
of blood vessels due to fatty deposits which can ultimately lead to a
heart attack.

What treatments exist for Diabetes?
Doctors advise changes in diet and recommend regular exercise, also
insulin injections are used in order to control insulin levels. Also it is
vital that the sufferer has regular checkups with their GP.

What you can do to stay healthy?
It is important to live a healthy lifestyle in which you control your weight and
blood cholesterol levels. A healthy diet must be maintained and blood sugar levels
must also be kept low.
