The current controversy over the newest edition of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn novel is a prime example censorship in America. The practice of censoring takes away an important value from what the creator had in mind.
Censorship in the United States
The first amendment of The Bill of Rights guarantees American citizens their right to speak freely, but this right is often in conflict. In today’s society many people believe censorship is acceptable for several different reasons, but censorship takes away a person’s ability to write or speak freely. The main purpose of censorship is to keep objectionable ideas from spreading, but who gauges what is or is not suitable material?
Censorship in the United States is used for many different reasons and in very different ways. Censorship is the act of changing or removing material that could be found offensive to a person or group from outlets such as television shows, radio, and movies. Television shows have been strongly censored due to them being so easily viewable. There are shows with certain subject material that cannot be shown until after a certain time at night. Radio is extremely censored by the FCC. There have been cases against the FCC brought on by offensive material being spoken on the radio and the FCC . Movies are also highly Books, on the other hand, have been considerably freer than other outlets.
