                    Who Am I?
My name Joseph Girardin, but all of my friends and family call me JR. I have come from a very
challenging   background.   As a child growing up I was beat down physically and emotionally by my step
father Ken. When I became older I began my journey by looking to the street for the love that I was
lacking in my own home. That’s when my path of destruction erupted.   I was a child who couldn’t be
told what to do and that’s when everything came to a complete stop and at only the   age of fourteen
was I sent off to prison. While my time in prison I learned so much about life. With the things that I have
learned, I will begin to tell how I became an understanding ,   responsible and confident person.
I learned the essence of being an understanding person, by knowing and feeling the pain and
struggles that I put myself through and what I had put my family through. Such as me not listening to
them disrespecting   and my family having to watch their oldest son go to prison. Another way that I am
an understanding person is when ever my best friend Jaclyn comes to me and she has a question on a
relationship I will give her the comfort and the feedback that is necessary in order for her to succeed
and feel good about going into that relationship with who she likes at that point in time. Furthermore
my mom comes to me and asks what are some good self process tips that she can use to not become s o
naïve about the situation that she might be encountering at that point in time of her life, so I give her
advice and coping skills in how to deal with the problems   that she is going through. I learned that life is
all about choices and you have to be understanding about all the ups and downs and you must stay
positive. This is how I am a very understanding person.
While my time being incarcerated it taught me how to become a responsible individual person....
