When I first looked at this print I was inspired by the amount of detail and patterns which went into making this intricate design. The circular shapes and twisting design made me think of growth and expansion this can also be seen as the images get lager they get closer to the edge. I like this image because wherever you look you can see other images which are connected within the print. This image reminds me of farms and animals which are also connected with natural form. I have never seen a print with such a delicate pattern that is what also attracted me to this print.

This is a print inspired by natural form in particular Natural objects representing the elements: earth, air, fire and water including the sun, birds, trees, animals, stars and flowers. This print is circular and Ronay uses acrylic paint to print onto on heavy weight cartridge paper. These materials were chosen to emphasis the cut shapes from the prints. The cartridge paper was heavy weight to avoid buckling.   I think she choose the circular shape because its unusual in prints even today as well as to also emphasis the meaning and importance of the circle of life and an important reference to in the ‘human ovum’. These materials are in common use and there availability might have been a factor in using them.   Although the materials themselves have no real meaning the burgundy red colour creates the image of blood which Emma Ronay herself links to life. I use acrylic paint a lot in artwork and enjoy printing this was one of the reasons I was drawn to Emma Ronay as an artist. Whilst printing I use special printing inks, this is what I would have used if I had made it. I think different materials create different effects using acrylics Ronay was able to achieve the colour of ‘fresh blood’ which she wouldn’t have been able to do as easily with other colours.
