The Consolidation of School Districts

I believe it would be a good idea for the Pottstown and Pottsgrove school districts to consolidate. Important people like senators and governors agree with the idea to consolidate school districts. Merging school districts could benefit students in a positive way. The merging of school districts can also benefit taxpayers. The first state-ordered consolidation of school districts in the state of Pennsylvania was called on February 4.

Governor Rendell called for the order and said that fewer districts would mean a lighter local tax burden on property owners. A lighter local tax burden will help those property owners to save and spend money on more important things. Senator Dominic Pileggi believes that having more districts is an inefficient way to deliver educational services across the state. Robert Hartman, member of the Pottstown School Board, brought the matter to Pottstown and no longer wants to wait for a consolidation. These people spend a large amount of time on topics like this and have a better understanding of the situation. I can trust their decisions with merging school districts together.

Merging school districts would allow schools to operate more efficiently. Teachers must learn to deal with larger classes and can not allow any student to feel left out. The merging of school districts will have teachers take their job more seriously because the size of their classes and they must make sure that what they are teaching gets across to all the students in their class rooms. Districts have concluded that the costs of merging outweigh the benefits, but cost can’t be compare with the benefit of a better education. Merging districts can also help students find friends. A larger amount of students within a district will allow students to find people they fit in best with.
