In the manuscript, Cannibals All! Or Slaves Without Masters, by George Fitzhugh, explains to readers that Northern Factory owners are no different than Slave Masters. Fitzhugh compares the social, political and economic differences between slaves and factory workers. Fitzhugh’s over all thesis of the book is that a northern factory worker would be better off to be a slave than a factory worker. Deeper analysis shows that Fitzhugh’s thesis actually means that the northern capitalists, factory owners, commit “moral cannibalism”.   By this Fitzhugh means that the northern factory owners take the persona of a slave master and the factory workers are exploited slaves; meaning that the factory workers think that they are free when in reality they are not. Every right the workers believe that they have they actually do not because they work for the factory owner who “consumes” them into the cruel world of capitalism.
There is a high degree of bias as the whole book is based on Fitzhugh’s ideas.   Anyone who reads his book can easily tell that Fitzhugh is proslavery. It is evident he takes this position by the way he defends the particular institution. Fitzhugh’s opinion is openly stated in the first paragraph of chapter one. He says that the black slave trade is far less worse than the white slave trade.   This is a bias idea.   Throughout the book Fitzhugh openly condemns rich white factory owners, whom are the capitalists he feels are ruining society. This can be explained by the fact that Fitzhugh was born into a wealthy southern family; however, by the time he was ten, his family had lost everything. He himself felt as if capitalism is what ruined his life and that is why he writes this book.
Fitzhugh goes to great extent to prove his point. Perhaps one of his best arguments regarding slavery was when he brought mention to the pre-feudal societies of Europe. He related it to the south, saying how pure this form of government is. One of the best things Fitzhugh...
