Summary:   Analyzes Agamemnon and the three main characters Agamemnon, Aegisthus and Clytaemnestra and how they appeal to the audience.

The Agamemnon, a story of an ambitious husband, a wife turned temptress and a cowardly lover, or a story of three equally determined characters contesting for their own revenge?
In this essay I am going to explore the dispositions of the three main characters; Agamemnon, Aegisthus and Clytaemnestra and how they appeal to the audience.
'She is the lioness, she rears on her hind legs, she beds with the wolf, when her lion king goes ranging'
This quotation refers to Clytaemnestra and her state of affairs. It gives a slight impression of hers, and the other characters, personalities.
Clytaemnestra is described as a lioness. This could depict her independence and strength as lionesses in the wild are often the providers for the pride and the ones who occupy the territory. It could also be referring to the fact that lionesses look after the cubs while the lions go ranging and searching for other lionesses to mate with. This is very similar to Clytaemnestra's situation. Agamemnon, who has gone to Troy for ten years has been unfaithful with the 'Golden Girls' and Cassandra, a 'gift' from his army and has left his wife to look after the children.
Lions are known for patrolling their territory and being overprotective, this could refer to Agamemnon's personality as a king.
Lions hunt in packs, meaning they provide for others and are therefore familiar with all of the other members of the pride; this may also portray an aspect of Agamemnon's character. He has gone to Troy to lead a battle to help his brother, Menelaus, retrieve his wife. This is an example of closeness between a 'team'.
Aegisthus is described as a wolf; this may be because of his lack of appearances in the play. Wolves are shy creatures which avoid human contact; however they have in the past been given the label of...
