How to write academic paper

An academic essay is an important aspect of writing.   McGibbson (2009) states that two
approaches can be utilized in such writings,   firstly,   deducing each stage of the article from a
basic premises and successive related premises.   Another approach is to deal first with one set of
arguments then a second set thread and usually a third thread then the writer concludes by
linking the threads.   In so doing aspects to be considered in writing should entail academic
precision, edited for compactness and good grammar as well as maintaining relevance, structure
, style and accuracy.   The most recommended structure and style commonly used today is the
APA style.

In such a structure, the format entails firstly the title.   This serves as page one and it contains title
of the title of the paper, authors name, the institution of affiliation and should be typed center on
the page.   Feildman (2004:2) says the article title is the first bit of a bait that lures the potential
reader to explore your writing.   It needs to be specific to point at who how it’s researched, with
who and where.

The abstract is the second part of the writing and begins in page two. It should be a brief
summary of the whole paper and about 150 – 200 words.   Feildman (2004:2) points it as a
‘window display’ for your work and needs to impress.   It shouldn’t be vaguely written to grab
the needed attention.

The next part of the paper is the body.   Turabian (1996) outlines the basic structure of the body
as having the introduction,   literature review, methods, results and discussion.   The   500- 1000
word   of   an   introduction   can   be   described   as   an   executive   summary   that
gives a glimpse of what’s to come.   Perry et al (2003:658) says here the broad theme is stated, its
academic importance, the available literature and important gaps as well as core research to be
addressed and the specific objectives.
