“A sudden, great and violent change of a system of government.” This is what you will probably find when you are looking for a definition of revolution in the dictionary. The revolution results usually include major changes in political structure, culture, and economy. The world has remembered a lot of revolutions; one of them is the Iranian revolution that happened in 1979. Iranians experienced a completely different life before and after their revolution.
One difference that Iranians experienced after their revolution was political. Iran had been ruled by a monarchy for 2500 years until the 1979 revolution, when it became an Islamic republic. In monarchy government one person, a king, who is called ‘’shah’’ in Iran, rules the country. Even though the country had a cabinet, parliament and other parts, shah alone adopted the important decisions in the Iranian monarchy government. Appointing or removing the prime minister, ministers, governors, and others was also conducted only by the shah. In contrast in Islamic republic system, a leader, who is called ‘’rahbar’’, is the highest element of the government. Even though the leader is the chief and responsible for determining general policies of the country, the president is a head of the government. The president is directly elected with the votes by the people through elections. In Islamic republic government there is a parliament also with 290 members that they legislate and also monitor the government.
Another difference that Iranians experienced after their revolution was cultural. Even though the successful culture of previous Iran civilizations was not lost, it suffered a lot of changes by the new Islamic polity and civilization.   New Islamic government roles forced the Iranian women to change their way in dressing and use “hejab”, for example. The government forced them to hide all parts of their body and also their hair. In the new roles the male and female schools got separated also.
