Macbeth Downward Spiral

In the play Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, Shakespeare portrays the main character Macbeth as a powerful man and a brave soldier, however   He is easily tempted into murder to fulfill his ambitions Once he commits his first crime, it becomes increasing easier for him to commit more.   Throughout the play Shakespeare vividly captures his downward spiral.  
The first instance of this happening is in act one when he is deciding on the process of how he will become king. “The prince of Cumberland! That is a step On which I must fall down, or else o'erleap, For in my way it lies. Stars hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires. The eye wink at the hand yet let that be which the eye fears, when it is done, to see” ACT 1 Scene 4 Line 50-55. In this quote Macbeth has already decided that he will kill Duncan but Duncan son his standing in his way of becoming king.   This quote also shows that Macbeth knows right from wrong, but he chooses to do wrong without being able to justify it to himself.
The next example of his downward spiral is shown in act three. “Who wear our health but sickly in his life, which in his death were perfect’ act 3 Scene 1, Line 110- 111. In this qoute Macbeth is saying that while Banquo is alive he is ski but if he is dead than we will be well again. This clearly shows that it is becoming easier and easier for Macbeth to murderer people in order to get what he wants
The last example of Macbeth’s downward spiral is found in act five. “They have tied me to a stake. I cannot fly, But, bearlike, I must fight the course” Act 5 Scene 7 line 1-2.   This qoute shows that Macbeth’s plans have run out. In addition to that he is no longer taking ownership of his own actions therefore he has completely gone insane.
