Generation Y is considered the generation proceeding the Baby Boom Generation. There is a question of whether or not there is a new generation to come of age, Generation Z. I believe there is a Generation Z, and differs greatly from Generation Y; but they also have their similarities.

Generation Y is the generation where personal electronics were introduced, such as: the first personal desktop computers, the Walkman, the Boom-Box, and devices such as the Nintendo Gameboy. Back in the time of Generation Y, there was different music, different fashion, and a different mind-set; like: hard rock music, heavy metal music, the time of Michael Jackson, slap bracelets, and outdoor socialization.

Generation Z is the generation where personal electronics were perfected, such as: iPod, iPad, 3D-TV, motion sensor video game consoles, portable laptops, and of course, the World Wide Web. Now, in Generation Z, we have a unique culture; we have: rap music, R&B music, and the time of Eminem, Silly Bands, and indoor socialization like Facebook. This is my generation.

Generation Y and Z have things in common as well. The people in both generations: socialize outdoors, have comfort in ethnic diversity, a sense of civic duty, technologically advanced, and some of each have not come to age. The main similarity between Generation Y and Generation Z is that we are both social. We all whether go out or stay in, and talk with friends and meet new people.

Each generation has its own set of distinct values that is developed from the social environment. There is a question of whether or not there is a Generation Z, or just a Generation Y. I think there is a Generation Z, and I’m in it. Generation Y and Generation Z are two sides of the same coin.
