Working at Home by Using Telephone and Computer Is Better Than Working in Company's Office?

With the development of modern technology, working at home has already become realistic. However, controversies have also been raised concerning whether working at home can be an effective replacement for working in office. From my perspective, though distant working has its merits, working in the office will still be a supreme option.
First and foremost, the quality of work may suffer because of the reduced face-to-face interaction with supervisors or colleagues or subordinates which is the indispensable element for a company’s successful running. Colleagues can hardly compare their performance with peers and supervisors also unable to know what is going on with individual employees. What’s more, while completing huge tasks or address complex problems, team works among colleagues are hard to accomplish since individuals working at home will encounter enormous difficulties, even with telephone lines and internet connection facilitating their communication with others. Therefore, it is considerably noticeable that the operation as a whole is undermined. Simply making a few telephone calls or sending emails cannot substitute for the face-to-face discussions, brainstorming, persuasion or even argument where innovative ideas and strategic decisions can be create. This kind of working atmosphere prevails only in offices rather than at home no matter how sophisticated the technologies are.

In addition, the traditional way of organizing employees in offices offers people a sense of belonging, a feeling that they are part of a larger group. Seeing all the colleagues are busy going around, the employees are liable to be productive, concentrating on the job, having a sense of working for an institution instead of working for a task or a product. More importantly, it can avoid the traumatic circumstances of being dismissed by bosses because of lacking trust.
