monomyth applied to “The Matrix”
The monomyth scheme is broken up into three mian catagories and fifteen sub catagories. Departure being the first. The call to adventure starts of the sub catagorie.-DepartureThe Call to AdventureThe hero starts off in a mundane situation of normality from which some information is received that acts as a call to head off into the unknown.CAMPBELL"This first stage of the mythological journey—which we have designated the 'call to adventure'—signifies that destiny has summoned the hero and transferred his spiritual center of gravity from within the pale of his society to a zone unknown”.
-In the Matrix Neo is litearally called to adventure when he is brought a cell phone, on the other line of the call Morpheous is giving directions to Neo on how to escape the office. Relating to Campbell, Neo is summoned and now has to escape and leave what he is comfortable, and enters the unknown”.
Refusal of the Call   Often when the call is given, the future hero first refuse to heed it. This may be from a sense of duty or obligation, fear, insecurity, a sense of inadequacy, or any of a range of reasons that work to hold the person in his or her current circumstances.CAMPBELL"Refusal of the summons converts the adventure into its negative. Walled in boredom, hard work, or 'culture,' the subject loses the power of significant affirmative action and becomes a victim to be saved. His flowering world becomes a wasteland of dry stones and his life feels meaningless”.
-After Neo is handed the phone he fallows instructions on how to escape but is told he has to jump from the side of a building, Neo refuses and is brought into custody by the agents, Relating to Campbell Neo becomes a victim, and is now in the custody of the agents due to his refusal.
