Lagos Events and Festivals
Lagos events and festivals are strong entity representing the culture of Lagos, the way they think and styles they adopt in their lives. Lagos events and festivals are important source of understanding the people of Lagos. These events also bring harmony between widely diverse ethnic groups of Lagos and effectively represent all the groups.
Some important events celebrated annually are important part of Lagos culture. We will make you familiar with some of the important events.
Lagos Events; Liberation Day:
25th of April is celebrated as the Liberation Day. Lagos people celebrate it with great passion and sounds of cannons are seen dominating the entire atmosphere. People celebrate whole day with Great Spirit and different functions and fireworks are seen.
Lagos Events; Banho:
Another important event of Lagos people is celebrated on 29 August. It is associated with an old tradition according to which, some villagers travelled down from the hills and celebrated summer. They spent their whole night on beach. This event takes place at Batata beach and ends up at midnight. After that crowd gathers at Meia Praia Beach and people keep on enjoying till Dawn.
Lagos Events; Medieval Festival:
It is a festival that takes place in November as anniversary of Infate Dom Henrique.
Lagos Events; Shango Feast:
A very colorful festival is associated with Shango God in Lagos. Sacrifices are given at the shrine of Shango God and according to their belief priest is gifted with magical powers at that day.
