    德国语言学家和哲学家洪堡曾于1836年指出："一种语言的词汇局不能看作是无生命的，完全的整体。词汇是会通过其构词能力不断地生成和再生成的。这一观点适用于任何一种语言，英语当然也不例外。英语，作为世界上使用最为广泛的语言，伴随着社会、政治、科技、经济的发展，也随着不同国家、文化之间的人类交往而发生日新月异的变化。据调查，英语中每年都会出现大量的英语新词，这些新词随着社会生活中出现的新事物、新观念而产生，并且加入到现有词汇中，为人们在日常生活中广泛的使用，所以新词是一种很重要的语言和社会现象，对它的研究具有非常重要的意义。
    本文概述了新词的相关理论，如定义，分类，特点。在对文献综述的基础上，阐述了研究英汉新词的历史意义和目的，着重探讨英汉新词的来源和发展。研究发现，新词产生是通过构词法、旧词附新义和借刚外来词汇等途径。新词的发展受到多元因素的影响，包括社会因素，文化因素。英汉新词是语言因素和社会、文化因素相互作用的结果。语言随着社会的变化而发展，词汇对社会的变化最为敏感，社会、文化的发展变化是新词产生和发展主要的推动力量。另一方面，英汉新词也呈现出新的发展趋势，表现为新词数量
日益增多，新词来源更为广泛，新词形式更加简洁，更多的使用委婉语。
    本研究旨在帮助外语学习者加深对英汉新词的了解，扩大词汇量，促进外语的学习。作者认为，本文对于英汉新词研究具有理论的价值和实际的意义。

Abstract
"The interdependence of word and idea shows clearly that languages are not actually means of representing a truth already known, but rather of discovering the previously unknown." (Robert Lee Miller 1936: 46). As a convey of message, language is comparatively stable but also being developed. We live in a time when all the things are changing, including politics, economy, culture, science and so on. Every little change could bring many new matters and so as the language. Therefore, more and more neologisms have been found. On the other hand, large numbers of neologisms also reflect new things, new concepts and show us how out culture is evolving.
  This paper presents a picture of the definitions, characteristics and classifications of neologisms, elaborates the significance and purpose of this study based upon a historical view of neologisms. In addition, the thesis also offers an exploration of sources of neologisms by demonstrating the major law of word-formation of neologisms. As a language developes with society and cultural changes and developments are the major factors to produce new words, and neologisms will take on a new trend...
