With over 70% population living in rural India, more than half of them are youths. Rural India today is undergoing a rapid transformation. Even as agriculture continues to be a major source of livelihood for rural population, the younger generation is eagerly turning towards alternative sources of livelihoods. This generation of rural youths is keen to obtain an education and skills for their livelihood and survival, necessary to become a part of India’s growth story in the industrial and service sectors.
The need of the hour is to train these youths for result oriented and life coping skills for gainful employment, who --- if trained and motivated properly --- have the capability to build a new strong future not only for themselves and the society, but write a new chapter in the history of India, making it an economic super power in the world. The only thing, which is required to be done, is to ignite the minds of these rural youths.
From my point of view, skilling unemployed rural youth is skilling India. While training rural youths, the trainer, faculties, the director and the institution need to instill in the youths a sense of dignity, self respect, respect for life and faith in himself. The practical skills, which are useful in day-to-day life, may turn the youth into entrepreneurs which will help more youths with opportunities in rural areas itself. One needs to get an opportunity to succeed, which will help many.
Today, we find that many industries are moving their operations to rural areas or smaller towns. However, as factories and enterprises move away from large cities, they face dual challenge:
(i) To source skilled manpower from local areas,     and
(ii) To meet to the growing aspirations of the local youths, who desire jobs in their companies, though they have very few employable skills.
