Better Off in Meat and Dairy Industry
In recent years, many diseases are resulted from meat products or even epidemics start from animals directly. After the scare about foot-and-mouth disease and bovine spongiform encephalopathy, a lot of people start paying attention to the original sources of the meat products they eat are. This is why more and more meat and dairy products providers focus on organic and germ free products and promotions in markets. Scholars or researchers like Peter Singer and Jim Mason have great ambitions to investigate and discover the real world in meat industries to improve and upgrade the raising and producing environments in animals farms for a better and healthier sources of meat and dairy products. Although Singer and Mason fail to show the full views of both sides of good and bad farm environments, their argument is ultimately successful on the environmental pollutions resulted from farm animals, the emphasis on a better environments for raising animals and improvements in some animal farms.
In “Meat and Milk Factories”, a chapter in The Ethics of What We Eat: Why Our Food Choices Matters Singer and Mason say the amount of meat and milk in demand has been rising from 1970 in the United States of America (42). The meat industry and dairy products is an import issue rising in society and what is the reality in the meat industry and dairy products. In other words, how those animals are raised and how the environment is are questioned by many people. The environmental issues such as global warming is another consequence that people would like to deal with in meat and milk industry. They believe the rise in meat animals is a major factor to cause pollution.
