Stoicism in the Stars

The story of Anakin Skywalker is a classic story of good versus evil. Anakin becomes so warped by emotion he slowly changes his path from becoming a Jedi master and transform into the Sith Lord’s apprentice. Anakin’s journey has been contemplated by many on seeing what made him transform from the dark side. Through the teachings of The Bhagavad Gita and Seneca’s book “On Anger” one can see that attachment and fear was the core reason of his transformation to the dark side.
Anakin was once a young boy conceived by midichlorians. Midichlorians are the essence of the force which resides in all living things. This alone tells us that Anakin was born a powerful being. Anakin was born in Tattooine and grew up with his mother as a humble slave. In Episode one his life was flipped when Qui- Gon Ginn found him by fate. He took Anakin away from his mother and went to train him as a Jedi. The prophecy said that He took Anakin away from his mother and went to train him as a Jedi. The prophecy said that Anakin would bring balance to the force. The council initially sensed great fear in him.   Anakin was raised to become a Jedi anyway because of the prophesy that foretold of someone who would destroy the Sith, this was supposed to be Anakin. As Anakin grows older he doesn’t listen to one of the most important rules to being a Jedi, “being free from the emotions that subvert reason”. This is a stoic /Jedi trait that Anakin does not obtain. The Jedi are told specifically not to have feelings for anything. The first time one sees Anakin lets his emotions effect his actions is in episode two when his love for Padme is seen. It is impossible for Anakin to eliminate his emotions to advert reason. Padme was the Queen of Naboo in episode one and a senator in episode two and three. The become married in secrecy at the end of episode two and find out that she is pregnant in the end of episode three.
