Community/Career Experience Reflection

      For two out of the three years that I have taken photography at Sac High, I have helped set up for the art show that occurs every year – The Best of Sac High Art Show. Setting up the art gallery takes a lot of hard work and time. This experience is helpful for a future career in photography and art gallery because I have assisted in what would be called Art Gallery Operations.


      I have measured out mat board which is used to frame the art work that gets hung in the gallery. Cutting the mat board requires being able to know how to use math skills to be able to measure out a properly sized border for the artwork and precision to be able to draw and cut a straight line. After the work gets matted we then have to place the work in a frame properly suited for the size of the mat board that frames the artwork. The glass must be clean and clear and the work must be placed in correctly so it can hang the way the artwork was made to. After the artwork has been framed and matted, it’s ready to be taken to the art gallery.


      In the gallery the artwork must be arranged so that all the art pieces fit together in the room without it seeming cluttered. To do this we put together pieces so that their sizes create more room for more pieces to be added. Also, while arranging the room, the actual art is taken in to consideration. The arrangement of art pieces and which pieces will be placed next to each other needs to be very carefully considered.   Art pieces need to be placed in appropriate places where they do not take away from the artwork it is placed next to. Once the places for the art pieces have been chosen, the amount of space that the frame hangs, due to the wire used to hang the artwork, needs to be measured. This is so that, even though all the artwork hangs lower or less than others, we can use measurement to be able to make sure that when the artwork is hung, they are all at the same eye level....
