In 2003, Massachusetts became the first state to legalize same-sex marriages. Since this year, 8 states have gradually partaken in the large debate that has changed the lifestyle were all used to. With this legalization in New York that started June 24, 2011...comes the idea of starting a family. Same-sex couples cannot birth a child, so most of them intend to adopt. By allowing same-sex couples to adopt it will decrease the financial stress on orphanages, give orphans a better quality lifestyle, and portray that the typical “American Family” can be anything one desires to make it.(FindLaw)
Taking care of children is a difficult and stressful job, not only mentally and physically, but financially. The idea of financial strain on places like orphanages is a heavy burden to the wallet. Most people don’t incorporate the price of food, medical bills, gifts on birthdays and holidays (if any) and general bills like...electric, running water and gas. To house multiple children in an orphanage commences to more or less $300,000.00 annually.(4dshift) If the children housed have disabilities or allergies, it can cost up to half a million a year! Most orphanages are purely donation based and really take all the help they can get. Thats where same-sex marriages can contribute greatly. By allowing couples of same gender to adopt, it decreases the strain on the wallet that these housing facilities pay. These couples are willing to give a little to get a little...or in this case...a lot!
The life of an orphan is of nothing, I, nor anyone I have talked to, can understand. The feeling of being unwanted or given away can leave one with an uneasy and overwhelming feeling of loss and despair. When a child has no one to turn to, it’s as if all hope is lost.
