The major "pro" is convenience.   With a second one being safety.   With a cell phone, a person can always call wherever they need, even if they are not at home.   This can be very convenient when, for example, you are out at the store and need to find out what was on your list if you forgot it.

With a cell phone, you can call for help if your car breaks down or something like that happens.

The major con in my mind is that people overuse them.   They have loud conversations in inappropriate places.   And they use them while driving, which is very dangerous.

A positive aspect of cell phones is that we can keep in touch with family members and friends whi live far away more easily. Before cell phones, it was very expensive to make a long distance call, especially if it was overseas.

People like their children to have cell phones just for piece of mind. I know this from personal experience. My teenager can call me when she needs to be picked up after a school event and I can call her just to check in.

Talking on a cell phone and driving is very dangerous but what is even more dangerous is texting while driving. I see people engaging in this behavior and it is very scary. Texting while driving is responsible for many car accidents (and deaths) and should be more strictly enforced.
