Transformational Changing
January 18, 2012

In Chapter 5 we read about the transformational changing process. From what I have read, I understand that the transformational change process is; recognizing a significant problem, confronting it intensely, finding a solution, and integrating a new perspective and a new set of assumptions into your life patterns.
Since my initial start date of class, I have desired to give my very best and be all that I could possibly be.   Although it has been hard working a regular 9 to 5 job every day, I am certain that I have made the correct choice within pursuing a career. My significant problem was working for minimum wage for so long. I confronted my problem by speaking with an educational advisor about making a positive change for me and my family’s future. He along with a financial advisor assisted me in finding a solution. This in my case was enrolling in my particular degree field, based on my career desires. Together we all integrated concepts and ideas to execute the goal of becoming a college graduate in the near future. Now although I assumed that it wouldn’t be easy I have to say that the assistance of the instructors of each session has been refreshing to know that I have hope, help, and hands on opportunity.
Reading chapter 5.2 about Mezirow’s theories was quite awesome as well. I can relate to the self-examinations. Self-examinations have become my past, present, and future process for gaining my degree. Being so hard on myself for every little thing and hoping that I could cover up my imperfections without considering the real me wasn’t an option. So I chose to be up front with my instructors when I don’t understand something. So we formulate a plan of action. Remaining focused and doing our best to make a difference in our lives and the lives of those that we love so very much!
