Ontario Regulation 455/07 and Demerit Point System

Speeding, races, collisions and careless driving are all the things we would see if we did not have rules, regulations and appropriate point systems. When you are driving a car you have to understand that there are other people on the road and when you are driving erratically, you are risking not only your life but the other drivers as well. The Demerit Point System and The Ontario Regulation regarding street racing, contests and stunts are what keep the streets mostly free of these drivers.


The Demerit Point System is a system where if you do not obey the rules of the road, you will be given points on your driving record. These points are not good. The points tell authorities that you have violated the rules of the road and the will not think twice about issuing a ticket if they have to.   As a new driver, if you violate any rules and accumulate nine demerit points your license will be suspended for 30 days. If you do not surrender it to ministry, it can be suspended for up to two years. As a fully licensed driver, if you receive 15 points you will lose your license for 30 days as well. If you repeat this your license will be suspended for six months.


The Ontario Regulation 455/07 is about races, contests and stunts. When you and a partner are going at very high speeds chasing one another or getting to the finish line first and endangering others on the road, you are going to have to deal with the consequences whether it be a hefty fine, jail sentence, injuries or even death. A stunt is considered to be when you attempt to lift one or more wheels of the ground. This is a safety hazard. If you participate in any of this the maximum fine ranges from 1,000 to 10,000$ and the minimum fine ranges from 200 to 2,000$.
