Rājasthān, the land of Rajasthanis, the land of kings or the land of colours is the largest state of the Republic of India by area. It encompasses most of the area of the large Great Indian Desert. Rajasthan covers an area of 342,239 km². It has population of about 68.6 million. Jaipur is the capital and the largest city of the state. Here climate is generally dry with monsoon during July–August. The literacy rate is 61.03%.
Rajasthan's economy is primarily agricultural and pastoral. Wheat, pulses, sugarcane, oilseeds and barley are cultivated over large areas. Rajasthan is among the largest producers of edible oils in India. Rajasthan is also the biggest wool-producing state in India.
Rajasthan is the second largest producer of polyester fibre in India. The Bhilwara District  is the largest city in suitings production and export. Several prominent chemical and engineering companies are located in the city of Kota. The state is the second largest source of cement in India. Jodhpur sandstone is mostly used in monuments, important buildings and residential buildings.
Endowed with natural beauty and a great history, tourism is a flourishing industry in Rajasthan. Rajasthan is famous for the majestic forts, intricately carved temples and decorated havelis, which were built by Rajput kings in previous ages. Jantar Mantar, Dilwara Temples, Chittorgarh Fort, Lake Palace, bundi palace ,City Palaces, Jaisalmer Havelis are part of the true architectural heritage of India. Rajasthan is often called a shopper's paradise. Rajasthan is famous for textiles, semi-precious stones and handicrafts.
Traditionally men wear dhotis, kurta and paggari or safa (kind of turban headgear). Traditional Chudidar payjama frequently replaces dhoti in different regions. Women wear ghagra and kanchli.
