                          Patrick kavanagh

We all know Patrick kavanagh for his beautiful poetry and novel writing. But did you ever wonder where these incredible stories came from. Transition year students went off to Iniskeen county Monaghan to investigate this.
At twenty past eleven the students arrived at the Patrick Kavanagh centre which was the old church in Inisskeen which had been renovated t the centre. Patrick was baptised and buried there.
It started of with a lovely elderly women giving them a brief tour of the church which had things that reminded them of kavanagh   like his funeral mask and a model of his house.   She gave the students an insight of what life would be like for Kavanagh growing up in Monaghan.
Then they headed on a journey throughout the parish of Iniskeen, where the tour guide showed them kavanaghs house and his his familys farm which gave him is inspiration to his poems which the tour guide said passionately.
Then the students ”dodged on” back to the church to visit Patricks grave. The tour guide told the fascinated children about the corrupted of Patrick being buried with his loving wife and how Patricks brother broke the rocks that covered his grave to try take his wifes body away. The students were gobsmacked to see that a poetry ledend like kavanagh wasn’t een buried with a proper headstone.
The students of St. Patricks College not only had an enjoyable day they learned all about “the stoney grey soil” of Monaghan and Patrick kavanagh's life.
